I have to disagree, I have a couple years of track experience and there are two things here.
1) 0.7 second difference for cars travelling well over 100 mph (147 ft/sec) is a HUGE gap in distance.
2) Also being at a 7 mph deficit in trap speed means that the Shelby is still pulling away from the SS very stongly, and the gap between the cars is only increasing. Even a difference of only 2 mph in trap speed is very noticeable at the track.
This is corvette territory in straight line performance..... and before anyone says it.....yes a Corvette handles better than a Shelby GT500
Mods are always a wild card, and it is hard to accurately measure one car vs. another once those are involved. A $500-$1000 pulley swap and retune would push a GT500 over 600 bhp so you can see that mod counting is a difficult game.
