Except, it's not hard to data mine to figure out who that anonymized data pertains to. As an example - Hi, we are insurance company XYZ, we know that our customer Joe Smith lives in Anytown USA... We know he drives an OnStar equipped vehicle, there seems to be a lot of route information at his address in Anytown USA. This must be him and as a matter of fact, he seems to drive routinely above the posted speed limit. Time for a rate increase. It may seem far fetched, but it's probably not as far off of the mark as you'd like it to be.
As for your internet example, I can completely stop tracking of my activities online by not surfing. OnStar didn't provide a fair chance with this "update". Do you think people would've bought OnStar equipped vehicles knowing that these privacy terms and conditions would change like this? Who knows, but I'd bet there'd be several.
Thanks for listening

If your insurance company increased your premium, would you ask why? And if they were to explain that they got the information from OnStar or GM telemetry, that would be ethically, if not legally wrong. (1) I would threaten a lawsuit, (2) I would find a new insurance company. Plenty of choices for insurance these days.
