well, my only thing with you picking your own ring is that IMVHO it takes the personal feeling out of it. Emily picked the setting that she wanted, and we looked at stones together, but I made numerous trips back solo to pick the ring that I felt symbolized my feelings for her. its not (and again, IMVHO) something that you get to pick out. its something the man chooses to cement the relationship on the next level. its not "daddy, I wanted the pink car!!!"

ya know... lol

and as for the comment about a lot of men...

there was a guy who came in during one of my trips and literally spent no more than 2 minutes in the store looking at the rings and said, I want that one...

I feel bad for him...lol
