Anything I heard on the news I would take with a grain of salt. It is well known the SEALs can carry P226s. I am certain Team 6 can carry anything they want since they are the best of the best. I wonder if someone took some creative liberties with the story?
Since the death photos are not going to be released, we may never know. For all we truly know, they could have had MP5s, SCARS, HK416s, etc... However, a 9MM pistol will get the job done.

It shows dead men at the compound. I think it is the third one down that APPEARS to have been shot in the chin. I am pretty sure a 9MM round does not make that big of an entrance wound.This would be indicative of what the SEALs would have been carrying. Still, Bin Laden could have been shot with a 9MM while these guys were hit with rifles.
The large amounts of fluid loss in the first 3 indicate, to me, they were headshots. The 4th photo, I would say was a torso shot but can't rule out anything without knowing the size, shape, slope of the floor.
ETA: I just read on a gun website the rumor was a Colt CM901 in 7.62
