I think part of it, depending on her history (especially if abuse is involved), may be self-esteem related. I've noticed that women with self-esteem issues tend to go for the guys that will treat them poorly because it's easier to perpetuate the "I'm trash and this is all I deserve" mentality than it is to confront the root problem.
