Did the ZL1 get revealed too soon?
|
I wonder about if it got revealed too soon... However - in this case, we may have a little insight into what Ford might be doing. Is that bad? So long as development is continuing on ZL1, I don't really see the problem, per se. If GM were only planning, say, 560 HP, seeing the GT500 might get around 600+ might push them to reconsider their target. I'm not sure how much it takes to account for trying to make another 50 HP to work effectively in a car at an OEM level, but I know it's not that difficult to get the engine to get there. But can the rest of the driveline stand up to it? There's a safety factor calculated into these assemblies and components, but another +10% increase in power isn't small at this level.
Is it too late? Who knows. Is it good that GM might have a better idea what may be going on over at Ford? SURE! I don't necessarily think GM didn't already have an idea; but now a lot of people do, now, have this to think about, so I'll be interested to see what happens. I really think 600 horse' in LSA would be easy to get and that GM could do it, but at what price? Is there a market for a successful $60K factory CAMARO? I know I'm out
