I agree that "not knowing what the speed limit was" is not a legit excuse. Being that it was ~12:30 at night and I had already been driving on unfamilar roads for two hours out in the middle of no where, my eyes were glued to the street. Hardly having a moon and being the only car on the road there was hardly any light at all, I was more worried about making sure animals weren't on the road then looking down at my speed. Not to mention I had my speed warning set at 75mph so I know I was't going extremely fast.

When I was driving home from getting my GT500 in AK (live in HTown, TX) I was driving back at 2-3am and my eyes were F'in glued to the road like none other. I was on back roads highways w/o street lights and deer darting across the road. No F'ing way I was paying attention to speed limit signs.
Was I speeding? Possibly, no idea... but my attention was where it needed to be to mitigate the biggest risk.
