I disagree. It was Toyota's quest to overtake GM as world's largest automaker that has resulted in all of these problems. Toyota knew that they had a huge following of sheep who would buy whatever crap they threw on dealer lots, so they began half-assing cars. Ever been in a new Corolla? The quality of materials and workmanship are terrible.

Toyota is heading down the same road GM did. Success leads to arrogance. Toyota believed they were at the top of the world last year and that nothing could hurt them, but their sudden rise to the top has murdered everything Toyota once stood for.
