So to answer your question, yes the clock starts when you move, not when the light turns green. Its not dynolicious.

Just to add, this is what makes it a sport. You want to take the human-factor out you can always step your butt out of the seat also. Back in the day you actually even had to SHIFT these cars also, and great drivers could be the difference.
