For the first time ever, GMC will offer a luxury-laden Denali variant of its hauler-friendly Sierra HD pickup range. The truck unit of General Motors will now offer a Denali version on all but one of its offerings.

Set to go on sale in early summer, the Sierra Denali Heavy Duty will come standard with the automaker’s 6.0-liter Vortec gasoline V8 engine but will offer the new 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel that debuted recently in the Silverado HD.

That diesel V8 cranks out a solid 397 horsepower and 765 lb-ft. of torque at just 1,600 rpm and comes mated to a new six-speed Allison automatic transmission. Capable of running on B20 biodiesel, the big V8 can propel the Sierra Denali HD to 60 mph in less than 9 seconds and can tow a maximum of 15,600 lbs. with a fifth-wheel hitch.

To set the Denali apart from the standard Sierra Heavy Duty, the truck gets a unique four-bar chrome grille, chrome exterior door handles and accents and a choice of 18 or 20-inch chrome alloy wheels. Three colors will be on offer: Black, Stealth Gray and White.

Inside, the Sierra Denali HD gets the standard Denali tricks – look for unique brushed aluminum trim, upgraded leather seats and a whole host of standard equipment.

The Sierra Denali HD debuts today at the Work Truck Show in St. Louis.
