Spread cayenne pepper around the car and put some on a paper towel or some foil where they lay down. It works. I had to do that to keep cats away from my landscaping. It gets on their pads and causes some discomfort for a while then they're fine. One sniff of that and I guarantee they will leave your car alone forever.

Just remember to put down a blanket or something so they don't scratch the hood jumping off.

Don't worry, it won't cause any long term damage.
