Wait a minute.

Lot's of things "died" in '74. Not just Chrysler products.

The Javelin died. The Cougar got even more bloated and weird. The GTO died unless you count the dealer rebadged LeMans as a real GTO. Buick Gran Sports? Dead.

The Barracuda technically outlived the Mustang. Unless you count a stylized Pinto with a 2.8 V6 as the biggest engine a "Mustang"

The Barracuda preceded the Mustang and lasted one more year.

In '75 and '76, the Z/28 died.

Pontiac did introduce the Can Am in '77. But a '77 Volkswagen Rabbit was as fast from 0-60 as the big Poncho

It was just a bad time for performance cars. The only thing in 1974 that got more power than the year before was the Datsun 260Z. The Z and Celica are the only two to get a boost for '75.

Technically, the "hemi" Challenger came back from '78 to '83...if you count a Mitsubishi 4G54 as a "hemi". It does have Hemisperical combustion chambers.
