There really isn’t a business case here. A system like that isn’t just “bend some pipe and sell it” — it’s real R&D money: engineering time, testing, validation, tooling, production setup, and ongoing support. Companies make those investments where they see growth and long-term volume.
The ZL1 platform is the opposite of that. Production is done, the pool of new buyers isn’t growing, and the ICE performance market as a whole is contracting. That’s a shrinking customer base with a short runway to recover costs — not exactly attractive from a manufacturer’s standpoint.
Realistically, the “submit an interest form” line sounds more like polite damage control than an actual product plan. It keeps enthusiasts engaged without having to say the blunt part out loud: this probably isn’t happening.
