I think Malibu is a long shot. Most drivers associate Malibu with a practical midsize. Most drivers (other than those of us of a certain age) don't even have a reference for Chevelle. I think it would be more difficult to change people's thinking of the Malibu brand than it would be to work with Chevelle as a blank slate.
There are enough people who recognize Impala as a car that ranges from practical family hauler to kick-ass performance car. So my thoughts in order of likelihood are:
- Camaro
- Impala
- Something completely different
- Chevelle
- Malibu

Still can't figure out why they named a vehicle MODEL after the most successful TRIM name that Chevy had. Chevelle SS, Camaro SS, Impala SS, Nova SS, all great trims! That naming drove me nuts though.
I agree that Malibu would probably be a bad choice too.
I'm for keeping the Camaro name, just don't screw it up and offer a manual!
