If it takes $15000 to build a camaro that sells for $40000 and you sell 10000 units.
And it takes $12000 to build a equinox that sells for $35000 and you sell 80000 units. Which one will be more likely to stay.

If you take a random group of 1000 people for a survey and ask them what would you be more likely to buy, a 2 door sports car or a 4 door suv for everyday usage? And 950 of them say a suv.

At the end of the day car companies aren't here to make customers happy. They are here to make money.

Camaro has been cut twice now and mustang lives on as a sports car and a dumb electric sports suv. Ford is decent at limiting production numbers on low volume vehicles while also making visual changes to grab intrest. Where GM just writes it up as a loss and scraps the whole idea. The 6th gen platform was by far the best attempt GM did. All versions are very capable performance cars. An almost 300hp 4cyl for the base model showed they came to impress. But enthusiast dont keep the lights on. Volume sales do.
GM has been putting in work to push the corvette out of reach for the regular guy. But I'm sure we will get something dumb that we dont want like a fwd blazer ss that is nothing more than a muffler and stripe package. Yay!...
