Just a FYI for anyone who is also in this situation- Chevy sells the 1LE "short shifter" now which means the service dept has an official guide for the techs to follow about how to swap shifters. I felt the same way about the Hurst (wanted one) but know my limitations (age sucks!). So I asked my dealer to swap in a Hurst instead and they were fine with it. Not cheap but very easy-peasy as far as the part I played-lol. It's been in place 6-7 years and has had no problems.
