My second advice is to keep the car stock and do the service on time. Good luck!
IMHO - this is GREAT advice.

It seems like there are many instances where good maintenance, especially for lubricants, can help with issues. It seems like there is a consensus building for earlier oil changes for the engine a transmission. Not going more than about 5000 miles between oil changes (or using the OLM system GM has given us, which seems to be regarded as pretty good) is something that will help the AFM lifters from failing early, for example. Watching a transmission guy talk about a lot earlier transmission servicing (fluid and filter) than what GM says about the A10s can help with valve body issues (he says 20-30k at MOST between services). Shoot - it wasn't long ago, when I was working at the dealership, that GM was saying 3 years/36000 miles between tranny services, and GM says "lifetime" now...

These fluid changes are expensive. Even if you have the member discounts for Amsoil, for example, you'll be paying < $150 for an oil change. Shoot - I just paid almost $300 for an upcoming transmission service (I also paid for a new pan gasket, which I probably don't need) - that's just the lube/parts - I'm doing the work. But - this is my keeper, so no expense is spared. I think staying on top of the simpler service will extend the life of these assemblies, and spending the extra money on high quality goods might be a better alternative than what an extended warranty might cover.
