How does the banks data monster get the ethanol content from the car. I know it’s from the ECU but how accurate is it. I tested e85 at Kroger near my house and it was spot on e85, but the data monster is showing e71%. How are you guys getting a full e85 or am i just reading into it too much.
The Banks iDash setup obtains it's information from the PCM directly, so as long as you enable flex fuel readings from the PCM itself it will get that info direct from the PCM which is getting it from the sensor directly. The correlation between readout from the iDash vs. something else like say HPT is actually a 1/1 measurement. What I read on my iDash I ALWAYS read from HPT as well. In my case I see a content reading of E81- E82 from the pumps at the station. That is what both of my data readouts always show so it is indeed accurate.

From my understanding andknowledge of the land after having had many conversations with folks who reside out there, Texas sees more diluted E85 compared to the yellow state. So the E71 reading you are getting is more likely to be accurate than the other way you were testing it.
