If you go catless just tune it for it and you won't have an engine light. The exhaust will become more raspy. Im on headers, catless, Xpipe to stock NPP with no valves. I like the sound. Its loud when it should be and it's quiet when I'm cruising.
If it were me for your car. I would get test pipes to replace the cat pipes, get hp tuners, change the fan strategy to better accommodate for Texas heat, and make the changes necessary for the test pipes.
Just to add, my exhaust doesn't stink and I'm running on 93.
