In the end, I cheaped out ($100) dashcam and learned my lesson. I do still check the files of all dashcams at least once a month but haven’t had that same issue come up again since moving to the VIOFO cameras. Blackvue is nice and would be on my future purchase list, I haven’t looked much into them since swapping but I only bought cams with the STARVIS 2 image sensor at the time, I made this comparison which is a little outdated but basic features are the same

I bought a Viofo A119 back in like 2016, I think. I ran that in my truck until I traded it away toward the end of 2023 and never had any issues with it. The current truck has a A139Pro in it which I have also now added to my wife's car. Images are definitely improved over my original A119.
I also have a dual camera A129Pro Duo that I have been planning to put in the car but just haven't gotten around to it yet.
I also have a still-new-in-the-box-and-never-opened A119v3 that I had -planned- to put in her car but never did as I ended up putting in the newer model instead.
Viofo's cameras currently run anywhere from about $110 to about $250 or so depending on resolution and certain features, and I've had very good luck with all of them overall. The -one- failure I had was that the GPS mount for the original A119 had something in the power board go back so I had to move the power connector back to being plugged directly into the camera. The GPS functions still worked fine, it just wouldn't serve power through it any longer.
