I don't think the AirTags are a good idea. Most up-to-date phones automatically detect those within so many feet and so thieves may use that to know if one exists in the car and then look for it.
The LandAirSea products looked good and so I went with their "54" product. $25/month subscription which allows for location updates every 60 seconds and the device itself was only $35. It will last months on one charge (unless you daily drive the car) and it is small with a powerful magnet. Mine is well hidden and I don't see how someone would ever find it. They also have a kit so it can be hardwired in for power.
