Exactly, a bunch of us dealt with the exact same thing back in 2006 on an aviation site, a site that we all relied on that was so overrun with ads (not so much bots back then) and it just didn't work (or you were viewing the site and some crappy ad for a Russian Bride would pop up and your wife would walk in "Oh, what are you looking at!?!?!?!"
A bunch of members at that old, ad ridden, crappy forum that hardly worked said "We'd much rather pay a small annual fee to have a site that works, that is out of the public view and the doesn't have a bunch of random ads" and that is what I created and 19 years later it is still thriving, without a single paid ad (ever), we don't have to serve the advertisers (because we have NONE),
we serve the users of our site (our sponsors), every single day... And in return, they have a site that has worked extremely reliably for the past 19+ years, every single day, without issue, NO bots, NO spam, NO ads,
just a site that works, for about $2 a month (y'all spend FAR more on a SINGLE cup of coffee on a single morning than an entire month of forum access cost)... I absolutely LOVE the fact that we are not beholden to any advertisers and have absolutely NO agenda but to serve our membership who wholly support us... Exactly the way it should be... I offered to create the same for 6th Gen Camaros but there was some concern of the loss of information that already exists on this forum that sometimes works and sometimes doesn't work... So I didn't pursue it... If I got enough traction, I'd pull the trigger... I did it once with great success, I'm more than happy to do it again... But I need to know there are enough behind the project to do it because it is a lot of work...
