I can't directly confirm Arpad's explanation of what Amazon does, but several of my friends and I have all noticed "strange" pricing behavior on Amazon. Hard to pin down exactly what is happening, but Arpad's example makes sense. I buy short sleeve Dickies work shirts, and TWICE, I've found prices higher than last time from the SAME Amazon/retailer store. But then I go through my history, find the OLD order, follow the link and then repurchase for the OLD price. I dunno.
Amazon is a tool like everything else, and it can be an asset, but same as always, caveat emptor. Buyer beware. Use the tool, but rest assured, it'll use YOU if it can. Gotta price shop.
