quick update now that the holidays are over and I was finally able to work on the shift problems. Got the 1LE short throw installed (not the most fun I’ve had, especially after getting it on the lift and finding a nail in the rear tire) and big surprise it did not fix it. I was a little skeptical when I got the part but I’m always down for the easy approach first.
Next step; Drained the fluid and oh boy it looked it looked like purple metallic paint. Rain my magnet through and found a lot of rather large chunks and other metallic debris. Note: there was a lot more particles than just what’s on the picture linked before anyone asks I just didn’t take a picture of all of it.
Called a bunch of transmission shops and no one will take just the transmission in, they want the car put together so they can diagnose it. Sounds more like they just want as much labor charges as possible to me. So, since everything’s out of the way and a trans pull isn’t too hard this leads me to my next venture, rebuilding the transmission myself and finding what synchro or what is wrong with the damn thing. Going to order the Texas performance TR6060 rebuild stage two kit with the carbon synchros and metal fork bushings. Hopefully that’s all that’s needed. We shall see but when it rains it pours. Thanks for all the inputs and I’ll keep it updated for those interested.
Also taking recommendations for trans fluids. Had royal purple synchromax (synchromesh whatever it’s called) but down to try anything else so if anyone has recommendations it would be appreciated.

I find this highly unusual since these transmission have a good rep for not failing. I have almost 75k on mine and shifts like new. I had the dealer change my fluid with the suggested GM fluid at about 40 or 50k miles. I think I will continue with the GM fluid.
