Thanks! I left the shift boot attached to the black plastic circle it was glued to as it fit snug over the NTA adapter.
What I did was to take everything out and installed NTA adapter first, then slid the OEM shift boot on top of that, and finally I used that silver plastic ring between the knob and the leather boot to avoid the knob twisting and applying pressure directly to the boot and potentially damaging it.
You'll have to file down an indexing tab on the inside of the silver plastic ring to get it to fit over the adapter. I only removed enough so that it would fit over the adapter. Hope this helps!
