They always point to the finish and the fight of the 1979 Daytona 500 as the race that brought NASCAR from a southeastern hillbilly hobby to a major national sports interest. It wasn’t just that Allison and Yarborough crashed into each other just before the finish line preventing either from finishing g the race, it’s that the cameras caught them both immediately hop out of their destroyed cars without a scratch and go at it.
Like NASCAR has forgotten what made it great.
