I’m thinking that if GM did bring Camaro back it would be as a BEV but also with a REEV (Range Extended Electric Vehicle) option. The downside to this is that even though it would have an ICE, the ICE would
NOT provide power directly to the wheels. Its sole purpose would be to maintain the battery state of charge and also provide extra boost to the electric motors.
Remember, the drag on early Tesla Ludicrous Mode and Plaid was “yeah, but they lose performance as the battery depletes.” So…what if the battery
doesn’t deplete because there’s a gas powered generator keeping it at optimal SOC? I expect this to be the plan for electrified truck, starting with the upcoming Ram RamCharger and could apply just as well to performance cars.
