This is true. One of the things she was pushing for was one national fuel economy standard that all automakers could track to. Not one for California and another for the rest of the states. At the same time she was also advising
against relaxing the fuel economy standards as was done with the SAFER act. The point being that automakers were already investing in tech to meet the previous standard. When SAFER was passed, GM was among several automakers who said “thanks, but we are going to commit to meeting the previous more stringent standard.” For the most part, most major automakers would prefer setting the standards with an acceptable amount of year over year improvement and leave us alone to figure out how to meet them. Stop moving the goalposts.
