OP keep in mind that since Chevy sells a "short shifter" as an aftermarket part, (the one in your 1LE), they have a complete install guide, and you can provide them with the excellent installation guide provided by Hurst.
If you trust your dealer, you can take it there. And +1 on the EPCO ball!
The stock shifter isn't bad, but I think the Hurst shifter is the single best mod I've made to the car.
