Closing this out …. The vendor was RCA Garage, and they handled a warranty claim for me direct with Goodridge. RCA was great.
Goodridge required me only to destroy them and offer a picture as proof …. then they refunded the total cost.
Not sure if that’s indicative of a known problem, or just good customer service. But, alls well that ends well.
