It's true on a stock ZL1, a catch can matters less, but once you start modifying one of these cars to produce more boost, a catch can becomes a much better investment. Having a catch can with a vent is even more important to reduce crankcase pressure. There's literally no downside to using a catch can other than warranty concerns which depends on your dealer.

This ^^. So much this. Its the oil that cakes on the tops of the valves that you need to avoid. Because it is direct injected as opposed to port injected, the gas doesn't help clean off the valves each cycle, so it just continues to build on the valves.
