I've never bought an extended warranty for a car, and never regretted it.
I've never owned a car in the last 20 years that needed more than a few hundred dollars in out of pocket repairs. $3K pays for a lot of repairs, unless something big like an engine or tranny fails. There is a reason they push them so hard, and it isn't because they are concerned about you or your car.
