In my continuing effort to keep my intake temps (IATs) in check now that we are approaching summer weather here in eastern NC, I removed the steel sound plate from inside the supercharger lid. Removing the SC lid is not that difficult, except for the 20 10mm bolts that you have to remove in order to get it off.
Removing the steel plate does increase the whine from the SC some, but that's not a bad thing. I get why GM installed the plate to try to keep NVH in check, but putting a steel plate inside of an aluminum SC cover only serves to increase heat inside the lid.
The combination of my new Green air filter (in the stock airbox), removing the steel plate from the SC lid and adding a separate reservoir for the SC coolant has helped keep my IATs at ambient. Before doing these my IATs would run a few degrees over ambient. Hopefully this trend will continue as the temps rise this summer.
