Folks feel ripped off by insurance in the first place, and OnStar is being a snitch about what they really do behind the wheel. Can't blame the insurers, they're trying to get a more accurate picture of their risk by correlating the data. Problem is, consumers think their reckless habits should be secret from their insurer, and/or it's already baked in to the price they pay for insurance, and that was never really true...
Nobody cares that their ISP knows what kind of porn they look at or that their bank knows when, where, and what they buy with a card transaction (does your husband/wife know about that?). Or that their cell phone and smart TV listen in on conversations or that Alexa is basically a little snitch too, but they let her in the house. Or that apps on their phone are looking at their pictures and tracking their every movement....
But yea, let's have eleventy thousand threads raging about OnStar.
