This is a car site, so discussion about GM doing it is perfectly relevant. Other automotive OEMs allow you to simply opt out, right from your car…! And tell you point blank, in your car, when they are collecting data. Crazy concept right?!? They don’t auto re-subscribe you when you update your app either. Your argument is apples to oranges. Saying other OEMs do it is fine, but it’s HOW GM does it, and how hard they make it to actually opt out of it, that is wildly unacceptable.

Oh, if I don’t like Google, I can simply use Proton for mail. And instead of Amazon, I can buy from thousands of other websites using my VPN. But it’s a different story when you pay $50K+ for a car and can’t change how it communicates your data well after the car is yours.
