LT1 has different exterior look and less options available when building it out but when you decode an LT1 vin# in a GM catalogue the car comes up as a 1SS. It could be how the vin#'s were done and the fact that the LT1 trim came out afterwards as a more affordable option. I work for GM and can verify first hand that the catalogue does indeed class them as 1SS's.
