Extreme example, but what if OP has $20B in the bank and a $30-40K dealer surcharge on the 2024 is actually desirable to him, because he can make sure no "peasants" will get the vehicle he wants? (See also Veblen or Giffen goods in your microeconomics 101 textbook.)
