It’s not sales as much as it is profit margin. Everyone knows cars have the lowest profit margin in any brand lineup. The two Cadi’s the Camaro shares the line with have the name plate alone to boost profit margin. Low PM + low volume = bad #’s.
If the Camaro had the profit margin the corvette does it would warrant its own plant. But considering it shares a line with two other vehicle, and there is only so much you can run, bc the line can only run as fast as the paint process, and there are the other two there, it’s kind of a no brainer to the accountants. You have to keep in mind, Camaros in general are a pretty inexpensive car (these days) with the exception of a very small number of ZL1’s, and those cexceptions also cost the Oem more to make.
To keep the Camaro, the sales and pm would have to justify its own plant. Think multiple plants for trucks and large SUV’s.
