Vinyl is soft and VERY easy to scratch as you have learned. Any tiny bits of grit will make swirls and scratches. So to avoid that, clean without contact. No wiping, no dragging rags, no feather dusters. Just a foam cannon and pressure washer.
To make it easier/better/more effective to clean without contact, put a durable hydrophobic coating on the car (Gtechniq EXO or similar). Lower surface energy means things don't stick to it. The less dirt sticks to the car, the easier it is to get it back off the car.

i have never scratched any vinyl washing my car. Maybe need to look in how you wash your car.
Proper technique and proper products will never scratch it
