Not even taking driving dynamics into consideration at all, I have to assume if you just unplugged the magride shocks on the ZL1 it's going to freak out the cars systems. Triggering diagnostic codes and maybe even a limp mode. So just that alone leads me to believe there must be different software running on some of the systems on the ZLE.

Yes, you can replace the stock Magnaride suspension with the 1LE dampers. It just takes a pigtail that you have to plugin so the car "thinks" magride is still installed. But I don't think there is any difference between "touring, sport, track etc" between the two. I'm still waiting on the person that mentioned that to let us know how there is a difference.
