The eLSD does not have it's clutches within the main gear housing of the rear end. The clutches are in a separate fluid, in a separate housing.
Ive used Mobil 1 and Valvoline (most often due to it's slightly better VI) for 30k miles in my 1LE and it's seen many drain/fills and hard track use. I guess it's a ticking time bomb.
It's easy to blame the gear oil here, as that's the only one (1) thing mentioned, but no one here has heard the OP's actual noise or put eyes on the vehicle, yet you all are jumping to a definite conclusion.
