I just got back from a 600 mile road trip in my new ZL1. About 500 miles on the ODO when I started. The trip consisted of some highway, some back roads at 35-55 mph, and some steep climbs and windy roads in the Berkshires, along with stop and go weekend traffic out and back. On the highway, I was between 70 and 80 mph when not confined by traffic.

The result was that my mpg went up from 18 at the start to 20+ by the end. This rivals my 2010 SS, the difference being that the ZL1 has 650 hp vs the SS's 400 hp.

So what exactly is the gas guzzler tax for?
