With 15w-50 I see regular 275F-280F temps on the track. Not used xw-40 on the track and would be interested in seeing results.
In theory xw-40 should run cooler due to the reduced fluid friction mentioned above. GM recommends the higher viscosity oil for cornering protection, then only for the ZL1 1LE.
