Well, they need reliability for reputation, and if they’re building race engines then those are thrashed much harder than any long term Buick or Kia. That said, I didn’t take mine WOT to redline from day 1. Early on it was 1/2-3/4 throttle to 4K rpm, soon after followed by 3/4-WOT runs to 4000-4300 rpm, followed by staying in gear and engine braking. Additionally, I sped up the 1500 mile break in by driving in one gear lower than the auto would want to be in (eg driving in 7th instead of 8th). No harm done, just a few more revs in a shorter time period, speeding up the break in timeframe. So, after my 1000 mile oil change I was WOT to redline without worry.
