Sorry if this is a weird question, but you already have a cover, the lid you want to remove. Is it the hinge that is a problem? Are you trying to squeeze in a USB charger that is too tall and the lid doesn't close? If that is the problem, there are several that fit and allow the lid to close fully, e.g. this one that I use (works perfect):
