If the ECM doesn't report it shouldn't go into RDP. I fixed a weird issue on my Acadia where it started showing power steering assist on the dash and the coolant temp gauge would quit working. Did some research and it's a common problem. Supposedly the fix is tear into the engine to replace the thermostat and coolant pipe. On a 3.6 LGX the intake manifold and other stuff has to come off.
Basically what happens is the thermostat starts allowing the system to overcool. Some of the LT1's are prone for this as well. The temps will run 180(which isn't a issue imo) instead of the 196 or whatever. So, I said F that and went in and turned off P0128 which is the coolant temp report code for coolant running under target temp too long. This will flag the BCM to light the dash up, turn the fans on high, and a host of other things on different vehicles. Anyway, haven't had one problem since. Sometimes it's easier to tell the ECM to STFU and just run the engine. Lol
