Just what I was told. There would be no point in having airbags with a cage, seat and harness. You could probably keep it and be fine other than the airbag burns. Also don’t forget the HANS device when you do all that.

The reason for all or nothing is having a cage impacts crumple zones as it makes the car more rigid, that in turn changes that your factory seats are designed to give and break during a crash (think rollover so you don’t get crushed, race seat does not break), coupled with regular seatbelts have give and work in conjunction with the airbags, seat and crumple zones. There was a thread in here a while back with a GM safety engineer that explained all that. It was part of the Hans brace discussion.

I saw a Mustang roll over at the track this past weekend, fortunately he was in a fully built race car with all safety equipment installed. He walked always just fine, but the car was totaled. The cage kept him from getting crushed. Really made me think as it could have happened easily to any of us as we are running faster.
