People run into the same problem by simply changing our the back up lights to something brighter but don't install a resistor or try to splice into another wire for power.

I hear yeah on that for sure.... what's weird, is mine has been fine for 200+ miles, with the current mods as they are. Then all the sudden, today, all this happens, only when the AEM AFR is connected to the OBD2 port. It's been install and working fine for over 200 miles with no issues. It's just weird it seemed to start acting weird all the sudden. In fact, the gauge itself is still install and still has power. I've only disconnected it from the OBD2 port. By doing so, all issues seen to have went away. I cleared all DTC codes, check engine light went out. I've made 4 trips data logging since and still no check engine light and all is good. I have not reconnected the AEM AFR to the OBD2 port. I will get a new one (again) and install and see how it acts. It's all just weird!!!
