I put Continental extreme contact all seasons DS06+ on the ZL1 and the improvement in grip is night and day over the OEM Goodyear SC3 in cold weather and better than the Michelin Pilot Sports on my Supra, and way better than the PS4S that were on my 2018 Mustang GT. Sure, in my area from June through early September the upper limit won't be as high, but how often are you actually pushing near 1g in turns? On the street, it should be never. So, you'll never realize the difference between a great AS tire and a summer tire, and you can reap the benefits in cool and cold weather.
I had both the Michelin AS3 AS and the BFG Comp 2 and to me no comparison in terms of grip even on the street vs a good summer tire here in southern NC. Sure in December to February you have to watch it some, and my performance cars stay put on cold days. We get a lot of warm and warm sunny days.

Are the tires you are comparing the same width?
