I was not able to find a switched outlet in the fuse box in the trunk of my 2022 Camaro 1LT. And I didn't wanted to run the power cable for my Viofo A139 Pro dash cam to the front fuse box, as I am considering adding a battery pack later on which would be best in the trunk since there's so much space under the trunk liner. And I couldn't find a good solution for getting a cable from the interior into the space under the hood.
So I ended up partly removing the center console. I took off the two side trim parts in the front and the covers over the bolts in the back, and then it's just six bolts to remove. Then pry loose the sock around the shifter (I didn't wanted to remove the whole shifter knob) and you can lift the back of the center console up just enough to have access to the wiring underneath. There is a big multi-wire connector that has a thicker purple cable that goes to the 12v outlet (cigarette lighter), which only has power when the car is running or vehicle accessory power is on.
I was able, after removing some of the cloth tape that's wrapped around all the wiring, to tap with a crimp-on splice connector into that purple cable and run a wire through the center console, and around/under the backseat, into the trunk area. Since the cigarette lighter is already behind a fuse, I didn't add any additional fuse to the acc wire that goes to the dash cam.
I believe that the way my dash cam is powered, it always use the continuous 12v power to operate the cameras on, while the switched 12v is only used as a signal to know whether car is running or not, so it can go into "park mode" when the car is not running. So I'm not worrying about drawing too much current from that one cigarette lighter in case the 12v output is being used for other things at the same time, as the extra wire I put in won't draw much.
This may change if I end up installing a power pack though; I can imagine that that will be wired to charge only when the car is running. So maybe I will put in a relay to not pull too much power from the cigarette lighter then, we'll see...
